In the creative world, knowing about Movember is a given. Even though we think its a huge thing - and in some places it is. I’m not saying that the movement is unsuccessful, because its very successful and its awareness for a good cause - but how many of your ‘non-creative’ friends actually know about it?

I was on the train this morning and it occurred to me that we are well into Movember and should be seeing a large sprout of moustaches by now. But all I saw on the train was… one, one guy with his attempt at a Clark Gable-esque stache and gelled up hair. Sure enough he wore his obligatory scarf and fluffy patterned jumper (I’m aware that its winter, but you know what I mean!), skinnys rolled up, boat shoes and man-bag in toe. Mr. Hipster in a nutshell, yes? Well, alright, I didn’t hear him talking about a band that I’ve probably never heard of but he wasn’t speaking - so I get a free pass on that. Back to the point, does this mean that outside the creative world? No one cares?
Of course not, there are various reasons why people probably dont observe the awareness campaign - its not appropriate for work, some men can’t grow staches, etc. But it does get you thinking.
The creative world can sometimes be in its own little bubble.
Thats true with most little worlds. If we were in school still, they’d be groups. The geeks, the jocks, the stereotypical emo kids thinking no one understand them. And in the same way - out of these little groups, does anyone else care about what you’re doing?
More to come…
